GeFuzzApp: A New Proposal for the Continuity of Our Research on Fuzzy Metrics and Models

Nov 24, 2025 | Activity

GeFuzzApp – Generalized fuzzy metrics, fuzzy models and applications

At the end of this year, the IMaLeVICS project reaches its completion. As part of the natural evolution of the research carried out at the Visual Image Processing Laboratory (VIP Lab), we have submitted a new proposal to continue our work for the upcoming funding cycle.

The new project is titled: GeFuzzApp – Generalized fuzzy metrics, fuzzy models and applications. GeFuzzApp follows the same philosophy that has guided our research in recent years: combining theoretical advances with practical applications in order to build mathematical tools that are both rigorous and useful.

While IMaLeVICS focused on interpretable machine learning for problems in vision, imaging, and color sciences, this new proposal returns to one of the historical pillars of the group: the study of fuzzy metrics, fuzzy models, and their ability to represent uncertainty in real data.

A Theoretical–Practical Approach

In GeFuzzApp, we plan to continue investigating new generalized fuzzy metrics and fuzzy modelling frameworks, always considering their applicability to real problems. The goal is not only to develop new mathematical structures, but also to test their relevance and usefulness in practical scenarios, maintaining the interdisciplinary and experimental perspective of VIP Lab.

This theoretical–practical approach has been part of the DNA of our group since its origins:

  • developing mathematical models grounded in data and experimentation,
  • studying how these models behave when applied to complex visual or perceptual tasks,
  • and using this feedback to improve both the theoretical foundations and their implementations.

Proposal Submitted to CIAICO 2026

The project has been submitted to the CIAICO 2026 call for consolidated research groups, launched by the Generalitat Valenciana within the Programme for the Promotion of Scientific Research, Technological Development and Innovation.

The proposal is currently under evaluation. If funded, GeFuzzApp will allow us to continue expanding the line of research on fuzzy metrics and models that has been developing over the last years within the VIPLab. We will share any updates as soon as the results of the call are announced.
