Displays are ubiquitous in the modern visual environment, and they require high image quality and reliable color reproduction. This lecture will connect the basics of color perception to the physics and operation of display technologies including liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Details will be provided about display color measurement, colorimetric characterization, color system modeling, and calibration. A few advanced display topics including high dynamic range (HDR), wide color gamut (WCG), head-mounted displays (HMDs), and augmented reality (AR) will be mentioned.
